Emperor in the Life palace – meaning in a Purple Star chart

· Without the Assistants, the Lonely Emperor signifies the monk or Taoist path — a person with Emperor in the Life palace and no Left Assistant or Right Assistant on either side: though Emperor is still the emperor, it is a solitary star, the “Lonely Emperor”, an emperor alone, and so it signifies the path of a monk or Taoist; if around Emperor in the Life palace there are no Assistants, this person is very steady, kind and generous, solitary by nature, likes to be alone, and does not like mixing with other people. The words “both sides” and “around” are kept as in the original wording, and are not identified with any specific group of palaces.

· Emperor is the master of the Southern and Northern Dipper — only when a hundred officials come to pay court is it a proper pattern; without Left and Right it becomes a “lone ruler in the wilds”, and its noble energy is hard to display.

· Emperor is the throne seat — it innately carries the psychology of being on top in a “ruler and minister relationship”, and finds it hard to accept criticism from an equal.

· Emperor belongs to Earth and transforms its energy into “Noble Official” — signifies office, status and authority, so the character likes to dominate and values face.

· Emperor belongs to Earth and is solid — once decided it is hard to change; being subjective and stubborn is a double-edged sword.

· Emperor has the power to resolve misfortune — when a destiny meets malefic or harsh stars, Emperor can resolve them all, turning the bad into good. One view holds that only Emperor can resolve them; another holds that great noble stars such as Sun, Martial and Harmony also have the power to dissolve disasters; yet another holds that the Southern and Northern Dipper constellations already have the effect of resolving and restraining misfortune. The views are given side by side.

· Emperor sitting alone without Left and Right — the Complete Book says “without the Assistants accompanying, it is a lone ruler; though a fine jade, it is not enough”, and you become even more haughty and distant from others.

· Emperor follows regular wealth — Emperor and Strategist both belong to regular wealth, that is, working for others and receiving a fixed salary. The Complete Book says “if Treasury, Minister, Left and Right, Literary Talent and Literary Arts and the benefic stars gather, there is no one who is not noble, and otherwise also great wealth”, so Emperor is not innately without money.
